Sandy Swim

Fundraiser for Moti and Shira

Update! Thank you so much to everyone who donated! We raised over $3,500 from more than 40 generous friends - including $20 at the last minute from a nice young man who happened to be at the park for the dive (it's in the video).

That's enough to cover a month's worth of rent and then some, which will really help Moti and Shira get back on their feet.

As promised, here's the video of the dive!

Hey everyone,

As you all know, Hurricane Sandy wrought some of the worst devastation the Northeast has ever seen.

Two close friends of mine, Moti and Shira, lost nearly all of their belongings during the storm. Their ground floor apartment in Manhattan Beach, Brooklyn, was completely flooded.

To make matters even more difficult, they have a two-year old, a week old baby (I just went to the bris on the day of the storm), and a pet dog to care for. For them, the timing of this disaster couldn't have been worse.

So I've decided to hold a fundraiser for them, in hopes of raising enough money to help them find a new apartment and replace some of their lost belongings.

Please sponsor me as I take a wintry plunge into some really really REALLY cold water! As a special thanks for all the donations, I will do a polar bear swim in the icy cold Hudson River, at the site of the Vanderbilt Mansion in Hyde Park, NY.

The swim is scheduled for Sunday, December 2nd at 2pm.

Everyone is of course invited to come watch me take the plunge! I'll also post a video of it here on this page.

All of the donations will go directly to the family of Moti and Shira Lebovich.

Thank you so much,
Ilana
